One of the things that many of our patients have concerns about following tubal ligation reversal is what they can expect during the recovery process. Perhaps you’ve had similar concerns and perhaps they’ve even stopped you from contacting our clinic to make your first appointment. These worries are very common, but we don’t want them to plague you. If you’re thinking about tubal ligation reversal, we’d like to talk to you about what you can expect during recovery, so you’ll be well-informed and able to make the best decision for you and for your family.
Tubal ligation reversal is actually a very quick procedure compared with other operations. It only takes one to two hours to complete. You will need to stay in the hospital one or two nights, and someone will need to bring you home when you’re discharged.
Once you’re at home, you’ll need to plan to take it easy for about a week. This is sometimes difficult, especially when you have children at home who need your attention. It helps if you can talk with them before your surgery and explain the need for you to take some days to relax. Plan some quiet activities you can do with them, like reading them stories or watching their favourite movies with them. If your spouse can take some time off work to be with you, that would be wonderful. If that’s not possible, however, a family member or a close friend is usually only too willing to lend a hand while you recover.
It won’t be long and you’ll begin feeling like yourself again. You’ll need to ease into your regular activities slowly, of course, just like with any surgery. However, before you know it, you’ll be ready to start trying for a new baby.
We get so much joy out of watching the families we serve grow! If you’re considering tubal ligation reversal, we’d love to talk to you. We know you have many questions, and we’ll give you the answers you’re seeking.
